TRIBE is a multicentre clinical registry and biobank which prospectively collects, storse and provide transplant-related information and biological samples to clinicians and researchers. TRIBE also collects clinical information about organ donors from DonateLife Victoria, when it is relevant to transplant outcomes.
Researchers from within Australia can apply to the TRIBE to access clinical data and samples for their research. TRIBE then provides samples to the collaborating researcher if the research project meets the required ethical and scientific standards.
Samples are only released to researchers whose research has been approved by a Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC). The HREC reviews the research to ensure that it is ethically and scientifically sound and will be conducted in accordance with the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (2007).
The TRIBE governance structure consists of a Steering Committee, Data and Sample Access Committee and Working Group.
The Steering Committee is comprised of a panel of experts selected from various disciplines to review the running and viability of the TRIBE, provide strategic direction and advice and assist the TRIBE in achieving its aims.
The Working Group provides oversight and support of TRIBE functions within the members’ organisation and externally.
The Data and Sample Access Committee reviews all applications for access to data and samples to ensure that the research project will appropriately use the samples and data, is feasible and has the required ethical approval.
